01 ___ Harbours
Living in a coastal village I see the effect of the tides and the seasons constantly. All bring different perspectives. The low tide brings calm and stillness, with the sea birds and waders; in contrast, a high tide brings activity, with sails, sea breezes and movement. Approaching a harbour at low water exposes the sea defences and other features, emphasising the effects of gravity, which I explore in the ‘Harbour at Low Tide’ series. Tight rows of ceramic cottages represent the skyline on the approach to harbour, and boats resting where they have been deposited by the tide.
